I am looking for true wholesale manufacturers and distributors, not discount retail businesses describing themselves as “wholesalers.”

I consulted the American Wholesalers and Distributors Directory and searched in the “Computers and Software” section. The wholesalers listed there seem to offer customized software and systems. I’m looking for prepackaged software for end users. I will now search the same directory under “Office Supplies.”

Is this the right category? Do you know of any good wholesalers? How does one go about buying such items? For example, from where does Staples or Office Depot buy their software packages? I could simply ask them but I doubt they’d be enthusiastic about helping a potential competitor.

Hi! I am an internet reseller (but not of software titles). You MUST have a business license, and the only method that has worked for me to obtain products is by attending importer trade shows. I just attended one this past week in Las Vegas, and there were at least 10 software wholesalers (as nearly every software title is produced overseas). The minimum purchase for software titles was $ 20,000 worth of merchandise.

The people who sell these titles wholesale are doing so on a MASSIVE scale. You must be prepared to make a H-U-G-E investment for anything like your business idea to be profitable.
