Would this be a new tax law to consider?

Question by : Would this be a new tax law to consider?
All members of the Ways and Means committee should they be required to manually do all of their own taxes with out any outside assistance. After all, they write the law, wouldn’t they best know how to follow it with out any assistance.

I’ve always thought that if the writers of the tax bill had to do their taxes by themselves (by hand or by home computer) and then were penalized an extra $ 5 for every $ 1 they were off, we’d finally see some simplification.

Every tact the tax law takes to raise more money makes the forms that much harder. For example, passive activity losses. Not allowed to take the loss now, so you have to have a form to postpone it. You have to carry forward the data until you can take the loss. Phaseouts. More formulas. And every tax rule has a different phaseout.

Just look at the three poster children.

Geithner. Did his taxes with Turbotax and failed to pay SE tax on income from the IMF.

Daschle. Relied on 1099-Misc forms instead of his own records and missed one month of income as well as failed to realize the “free” limo was taxable income.

Rangel. Claimed he didn’t speak enough Spanish to translate the statements for his rental property in the Dominican Republic, so he left them off his tax return.
