Q&A: Washington, DC Taxes?

Question by Heather: Washington, DC Taxes?
I live in DC and work in VA. My company withholds VA taxes. I filed a tax return for VA and DC (through HR block on-line) and I owe money to VA and DC. I think that DC gave me credit for the VA taxes that I paid. Did I have to file in both places? Does it matter if they withhold DC taxes or VA taxes?

Depends on the tax laws of each place but usually if you work in one state and live in another both states want a tax return filed.
